6. What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?
My kids are not impressed. They’ve seen my show a few times, they enjoy the spoils more than the jokes. They want to know if they’re going to ride along to Montreal or Melbourne or wherever. Also they want to know why some stuff is true and some stuff isn’t. Especially about them, they get furious, I never said that daddy! But most of my stuff about them is verbatim.
7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?
Where do you want me to start? The travelling, the loneliness, the jealousy, the backstabbing, the intellectual property theft, the abusive comedy “fans”, the venues still paying the same fees they paid in 1989...
And of course, the dying. The little deaths that haunt you.
8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?
I think I could be the best, but I just don’t want to be. Stand up has been a hobby for the past two years and that’s the way it’s going to remain. I did it for a living for three years and it nearly ruined my life.
9. How much do you earn?
(Doc Brown didn't answer this)
10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?
I’ve never been lucky in showbiz. Ever. I’ve created the bedrock for good fortune to happen specifically to me, but it’s never a coincidence. If you’ve ever thought “Hey how come Doc seems to be the man of the moment?” It’s because I dictated it. I come from Hip Hop man, we are born to approach everything with a DIY attitude. Luck is for losers.
