Jason Byrne is adding a new interactive element to his forthcoming show, which starts its 28-date UK tour in Sheffield on October 9. The tour follows a successful run at the Edinburgh Festival.
Each year Jason is asked for the name of his touring show and each year Jason has to think up a title. This year he is handing the power back to the people and is asking his audience to name the show for him. Hence the provisional title of You Name The Show.
The best name will win £500. There will be a leader board on stage each night and by the end of the tour the show will have a name.
Each night Jason will carefully select a handful of audience members and give each one a white board to write down what they think the show should be called. At the end of the show, the entire audience will vote on which name is the best and the winning name will take place centre stage on the white leader board. At the end of the tour, Jason and his final audience will choose the winning name.
Byrne said: “I have great fun when I am on the stage and really looking forward to seeing what my audience come up with for the name of my show. I can’t wait to hit the road and see what happens. I love nothing more than giving them a laugh. The show breaks all the rules and is not to be missed!”
He also enlists the help of the audience to decide the order of the show, using the 'You Name The Show’ wheel of fortune. This is when anything can happen, literally. By Jason’s own admission, the content of the show has been known to change "up to 546 times". The show could open with the ending, end with the beginning and the opening might pop up mid-way! The show is completely up to the audience and the homemade wheel of fortune.
Byrne’s infectious, rowdy energy and unequivocal ability to nail improvisation, paired with an abundance of crazy requests and dramatic stunts, guarantees ‘You Name The Show’ to be the single most unpredictable couple of hours you will spend this year!
Jason is currently recording a new TV series, Snaptastic (TV3). Jason has featured on Live at the Apollo (BBC1), The Royal Variety Show (ITV1), Sony Radio Gold Award winning The Jason Byrne Show (Radio 2) and Father Figure (BBC1) of which he is the creator and star.
