A campaign has been launched to get a song recorded by Rik Mayall's spoof heavy metal band Bad News to number one in the run-up to Christmas. The following was posted on Facebook by fans Ash and Midori Wilkinson:
"Rik Mayall was a comedy genius, and his passing has saddened many of us at this time, but his family will miss him most a Christmas.
Conveniently, Bad News wrote a Christmas song, it's called "Cashing in on Christmas" and it IS available for download, I checked! This is the song the campaign is for, feel free to download others whenever as they are all great tracks, but please PLEASE buy this track in the Christmas chart week!
So, in the week leading up to Christmas Number 1 (Monday 15th December - Saturday 20th December) Let's all spend a quid (less) to show our appreciation for Rik and the comedy legacy that he has left us with.
This event is PUBLIC please share invites around all of your friends who love British comedy and want to commemorate the late, great Rik Mayall at Christmas.
It's bound to be better than the over-produced crappery that spews from the X-Factor machine every year, if nothing else!"
Here's a link but don't buy it until December 15.
Rik Mayall's bench has been unveiled in Hammersmith. Story here.
