A cast including Rowan Atkinson, Clive Anderson, Harry Enfield, Angus Deayton, Rob Brydon and many others will appear in ‘100 Hearts’ at LSO St Luke’s, London on February 10 to raise money for pre-transplant Organ Care Systems. John Lloyd of QI and Museum of Curiosity will then hold a conversation with Andre Simon, Harefield’s charismatic Director of Transplants, who will demonstrate the ‘heart in a box’ Organ Care System in situ.
These revolutionary machines enable donated organs such as hearts to survive far longer than traditional icebox transport methods. More hearts are therefore available to save lives, radically reducing waiting times that transplant patients simply cannot afford. Organ Care Systems also enable the heart to be better assessed, increasing the chances of a successful transplant.
This year, Harefield celebrates its centenary. At the cutting edge of transplant surgery, it has been performing heart and lung transplants for decades. Recently, by pioneering the use of Organ Care Systems, it has undertaken ever more complex operations with even higher success rates.
TransMedics (the manufacturer of Organ Care Systems) has promised to match the figure raised by 100 Hearts. So for each machine bought with money raised on the night, Harefield will receive two machines, saving twice as many lives.
The gig is now sold out, but you can make donations. For more information and how to donate click here.
