Maybe satire does work a bit after all. Perhaps Jonny & The Baptists’ persistent UKIP-bashing played its part in the fact that Nigel Farage didn’t sweep to victory in the General Election. Or maybe not. But either way, the duo's catchy, infectious songs – well done for rhyming Farage with "same-sex marriage" – are great entertainment. Jonny Donahoe and Paddy Gervers now face another challenge. They have to find new targets to send up. Not that it should be a problem. I’m sure there are some decent rhymes for Nicola Sturgeon and the Labour leadership battle ought to inspire them too. The new show, The End Is Nigh, also looks at climate change. And expect some personal stuff too. One of the highlights last time round was Donahoe's song about his father, so there may be more of that too.
Jonny & The Baptists are at Chipping Norton Theatre tonight, tickets here, and at Roundabout @Summerhall from Aug 7 - 30, tickets here.
