Edinburgh Preview: The Balham Free Fringe Festival Final Day

Balham Comedy Festival

The three-day freebie binge in Balham comes to an end today with another triple-barrelled bill of comedy. There are shows from 2.30pm in three different rooms at the Bedford pub so you'd be well advised to plan your schedule before you arrive. Among the afternoon highlights are sets from outspoken feminist Kate Smurthwaite and character comedian Anna Morris, who recently created mayhem in the ITV2 prank show Bad Bridesmaid. Tim Shishodia should also be worth a look. He had not been doing much stand-up for a while but recently won the inaugural Old Comedian of the Year. He was absurd, funny and madcap, mixing Tommy Cooper and Tony Law in a blender to come up with something all of his own. Stephen Carlin is also on in the late afternoon. I can't understand why this dry Scot is not a bigger star. He is witty, drole and Stewart Lee loves him. What further recommendation do you need? And for your final fun I'd pick between elegant musical comic James Sherwood and down-to-earth satirical tub-thumper Tiernan Douieb. This, of course doesn't mean the other acts on today are pants. Give something else a try too. And please bung a few quid in the bucket on your way out.
