Comedian Darius Davies found himself interviewed by BBC News this week about witnessing a drunken in-flight incident. Except that he did not witness it.
A Ryanair flight heading for Bratislava had been re-routed to Berlin due to the rowdy behaviour of a British stag party. The BBC had asked if anyone was one the flight and would like to comment.
Davies decided to have a bit of fun and emailed them his account of the incident: “The groom got his penis out and started spinning it around. He then said he doesn't care if the plane crashed because he had a helicopter and could save everyone. He then sat down but would sporadically get up to place his balls on the gentleman in front of him shoulder and say do you like tea… They were very boisterous…I think I can describe the groom's penis as I saw it a lot.”
He was interviewed by phone and was then contacted again and asked to appear on the BBC News channel the following morning where he told his story once again, which he just about managed to do without laughing. When he reached the “do you like tea” line the interviewer decided that maybe that was enough detail and finished the interview.
The stand-up played the prank for fun, but he has also pointed out how lazy journalism can be these days. He was never asked for details about the flight which he would not have known which would have given the game away. His story also appeared in The Mirror and he was interviewed by ITV News, but he thinks they cottoned on.
