6. What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?

They are fully supportive as they still think I work in publishing.

7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?

When people like you they like you - but when they hate you - they hate you with a red hot horn of burning hatred.

It’s strange that an entertainment form so immediate and disposable should elicit such strong opinions - a person trying to make you laugh is doing something generally positive - but the vitriol that pours out of people when they don’t find a comic funny is pretty staggering.

When people have an underwhelming meal at a restaurant they don't storm into the kitchen and call all the chefs cunts.

8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?

Thanks. I'm trying to write better jokes, and tell them better. But the difference between the comic I am and the comic I would like to be is still vast. I wanted to be Bill Hicks meets Bill Burr. I’ve ended up more Les Dawson meets the bloke from the Go Compare ads.

9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?

This is a provocative question designed to elicit a provocative answer. So go fuck yourself.

10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?

I had a very lucky break early on. I was gigging around Brighton and I got a spot on a bill I wasn’t really ready for - (I filled a last minute cancellation on a pro bill) and as a result of that I was seen by someone who recommended me to my now agent. I’ve always thought that was a fantastic stroke of luck and I’ve never taken it lightly.

11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?

I don't like the idea of categories, or trying to put labels on people, I don't know why we feel the need to put people in boxes, or pressurise people into thinking of themselves in difficult or potentially unhelpful....... Ohhhh I'm a self-harmer aren't I.

12. Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?

I mean you’ve eliminated everybody important in my life there so this isn’t going to be easy. I’ve got quite a cool and understanding landlord? Is that any good? His name’s Richard. Cheers Richard!

13. Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not?

Keeping your drawers tidy makes about as much sense as fighting the sky.
