Stephen Merchant is to present the return of The Crystal Maze on Channel 4. 

The special episode of the puzzle-solving cult classic formerly hosted by Richard O'Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole will be  broadcast as part of the Stand Up To Cancer charity week in October. The series was last broadcast on C4 in 1995. It had previously been reported that David Tennant would be the new host, but Merchant has now been confirmed

Merchant said: "As a huge fan of the original series, I’m honoured to support Stand Up To Cancer by hosting this one-off edition of The Crystal Maze. Richard O’Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole leave big shoes to fill, but I have size 14 feet, so I’ll do my best."

The episode will be filmed at the Crystal Maze Live Experience in London. Celebrities will take part in the games and tasks. 

A C4 spokesperson said: “We wanted something extra special for the Stand Up To Cancer campaign this year, so we’re delighted that Crystal Maze will be returning for a celebrity one-off.”
