News: Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2017 Results

Alasdair Beckett-King has been crowned Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2017 at the Leicester Comedy Festival.

Sindhu Vee, who was joint third in the NATYS 2017 final earlier this year, was runner-up.

Beckett-King was previously a winner of the New Act of the Year competition in London in 2014. He was also a finalist in So You Think You’re Funny? in 2013 and has written sketches for Radio 4 Extra's Newsjack.

He is due to make his Edinburgh debut with a show at the Pleasance this summer. He describes his appearance –  "as if someone put a wig on an egg".

The other finalists were George Rigden, Ed Night, Kelly Convey, Tom Houghton, Tom Mayhew and Alex Mahoney.

The final took place at the Y Theatre.
