I’m tentatively obsessed with relative newcomer Lindsay Sharman. I first saw her in the final of the Piccadilly Comedy Cub New Comedian of the Year final in 2013. I was intrigued by her posh tales of gap yah travel but I thought she was a bit too much of an off-the-shelf posh Miranda Hart clone. Apparently though this was more of a comedy character and, sure enough, next time I saw her, in the New Act of the Year final, she was in the guise of psychic Madame Magenta, her manic mystic with a twist. Sharman is on the Free Fringe this year fronting a show as Magenta. I’m not sure yet whether her creation has the legs to sustain a routine longer than seven minutes, but I’m keen to find out. Sharman is clearly warped, but in a good way. As I said the first time I saw her, and as she keeps saying on her press releases, she certainly has funny bones. And those are rare enough in this world to suggest she will at some point come up with something special. She is at The Lion tonight with Laurence Owen.
Madame Magenta is at The Voodoo Rooms from August 2 - 24. Details here.
