I've become obessed with Richard Osman's House of Games during lockdown. Particularly since Angela Barnes made House of Games history by winning all fve episodes last autumn.
And since Barnes comedians have been doing exceptionally well on the show. Isy Suttie was another overall victor when when she appeared in November. Josie Long also won her week in December. Tim Key was the overall winner at the start of 2021. David Baddiel won his show despite a late challenge from Sophie Duker. And then last week Maisie Adam almost matched Barnes' feat, winning four out of five shows on her way to overall victory. Previous winners in this series also include Neil Delamere, Rufus Hound and Stephen Mangan.
So can a comedian in this week's line-up keep up the run? Melinda Messenger and Charlie Brooks are joined by Les Dennis and Darren Harriott. Comedy veteran Dennis could be in with a shout. He's become a much-loved showbiz figure since he appeared alongside Ricky Gervais in Extras and revealed a different side (and his bum).
Harriott is very much a rising star having picked up Edinburgh Comedy Award nominations for Best Newcomer and also Best Show. Who knows what he might have achieved if there had been an Edinburgh Fringe in 2020. Harriott certainly has plenty of life experience. Growing up in the Midlands he used to carry a knife for a while as an innocent schoolboy until he ended up in hospital after being attacked. His life could have turned out very differently. Instead he is now a highly rated stand-up who has appeared at the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo - a venue where he once worked on the security. So I doubt if nerves are going to be an issue doing answer smash on House of Games...
