Julian Lee has been crowned winner of the UK Pun Off at the Leicester Comedy Festival.
Lee beat off seven other punsters in the online competition, including four previous UK pun champions, Adele Cliff (2020), Colin Leggo (2019), Robert Thomas (2018) and Lovdev Barparga (2017).
Lee himself was twice Runner-up, in 2017 & 2018.
He is from Newcastle and regularly comperes comedy clubs in the north-east.
The gig was the culmination of the UK’s seventh ever UK PunDay, an annual event in which pun fans around the country unite to share their best (and worst) puns on social media, using hashtag #UKPunDay.
#UKPunDay is Britain’s first and only national day celebrating puns, and was founded by Leicester Comedy Festival following the cult success of The UK Pun Championships which will return later this year along with Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Competition.
