Filmmaker Rhys Thomas has revealed that following the success of The Kemps: All True there were plans for a sequel, but then Covid came along.
The original documentary about Spandau Ballet's Gary and Martin Kemp was broadcast in July and had great reviews. Last night it was repeated and trended again on Twitter wth the hashtag #thekempsalltrue.
Fans, however, were disappointed when after the broadcast director/presenter Rhys Thomas tweeted: "We were all set to make a Xmas special in Dec 20 but had to cancel due to COVID."
Hopefully it will happen eventually though. Thomas added: "Maybe this year...."
Gary Kemp joked: "Rhys Thomas is wanting more access to our private lives... #thekempsalltrue"
Martin Kemp was typically enthusiastic: "Can’t wait to make more of Kemps all true @garyjkemp @RhysThomasOBE."
The documentary featured an all-star cast including Simon Day, Perry Benson. Lucy Montgomery, Anna Maxwell Martin, Daniel Mays, Alan Ford, Shirlie Holliman, Tony Way, Nick Robinson, Christopher Eccleston and Michael Kitchen.
There was further bad news for fans of the book Gary Kemp talked about writing in the documentary, entitled Places I Have Parked and featuring pictures of places he has parked. Kemp broke the bad news to people wanting to buy it: "Held up at publishers due to the pandemic."
No further statements have been issued regarding Martin Kemp's attempts to launch a new film franchise - The Hardest British Bastards of the Galaxy - and whether Gary has any further plans for his own Vegan meat-substitute, Wonge.
