The split of electro duo Daft Punk prompted a nostalgic anecdote on social media about a past Edinburgh Fringe show from comedian Tony Cowards.
In 2016 one liner champ Cowards performed a show entitled Daft Pun at the Just The Tonic Mash House. The witty title helped to attract good crowds, but maybe not always the right type. One day two Japanese pop fans turned up expecting to see the French duo only to end up sitting through an hour of great gags, playful puns and witty wordplay. Maybe they thought it was the enigmatic band's new direction. Though that didn't explain why there was only one person onstage and he didn't have a trademark helmet on. Perhaps Cowards got lucky and they enjoyed it anyway.
Hat tip to comedian Tom Mayhew for recalling this incident. Tony Cowards himself provides another pay-off which shows that some people at least got the joke. "Also at the Adelaide Fringe I was walking past some big posters, one of which was mine and I overheard a couple who were looking at it, the woman said “Oh look, Daft Punk are playing a gig” and the guy responded 'Nah, it’s just some shitty comedy show'".
