Heralding the return of live comedy, supersonic stars such as SIMON AMSTELL, SARA PASCOE, DARA O’BRIAIN, NISH KUMAR, BRIDGET CHRISTIE, TOM ALLEN & JOSH WIDDICOME are set to delight at this year’s special edition Bristol Comedy Garden.
This summer, 2nd to 6th June, the southwest’s mightiest comedy extravaganza moves to The Downs for a series of open-air, socially-distanced and truly magnificent shows.
The masterfully understated SIMON AMSTELL, multi-award winning SARA PASCOE, the glorious DARA O’BRIAIN, observational wizard JOSH WIDDICOMBE, Edinburgh Comedy Award winner BRIDGET CHRISTIE, riotous TOM ALLEN and Rose d’Or winning NISH KUMAR are among the big names headlining this year’s bumper crop of nine unmissable mixed-bill shows.
Each show features a dazzling array of comedy talents pairing household names with the very best in breakthrough talents like SOPHIE DUKER, SARAH KEYWORTH, RAY BADRAN & MAISIE ADAM plus Comedy Garden debuts from viral star RACHEL PARRIS and Taskmaster’s JAMALI MADDIX.
Festival favourites are also on board to celebrate this momentous occasion including Off-Menu host ED GAMBLE, local ‘vibe magnet’ JOHN ROBINS, lo-fi wonder DAVID O’DOHERTY and Netflix star PHIL WANG who’ll be guaranteeing some much-needed uplifting hilarity for 2021.
Traditionally held in a Big Top tent in Queen Square, this year’s event promises the usual unrivalled entertainment but in a new-look covid-secure setting. Performances will take place on a large open-air stage with big screens bringing audiences closer to this year’s incredible line-up.
In keeping with the current guidelines, tickets will be sold in groups of two or four with audiences seated on chairs in socially-distanced plots in the al-fresco arena. Additional safety measures will be in place such as multiple entry points, one-way walkways, enhanced hygiene facilities and our PPE-adorned staff.
The team behind the Comedy Garden have already successfully delivered this covid-secure format with their Greenwich Comedy Festival in September 2020.
Devon-raised siblings Will Briggs and Cass Randolph of 57 Festivals agree that this year is probably the most significant for them. “We’re thrilled to be bringing the Comedy Garden back. It was heartbreaking to have to cancel last year’s event and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have been able to reimagine the event to suit these challenging times. We’ve got an unbelievable line-up, even by our standards, and can’t wait to get these acts in front of our wonderful Bristol audiences.
We’re working closely with the local council and our suppliers to make sure we deliver an event that is safe and enjoyable for everyone - and above all very funny!”
Comedy Garden regulars will notice a few changes - instead of the usual bars, street-food stalls and intervals, ticket holders can pre-select everything they need for an incredible night out. When buying tickets, audiences can choose from a selection of drink & snack bundles bursting with feel-good tipples and tasty snacks from some of the UK’s finest creators, all packed in a cherish-for-life Bristol Comedy Garden cotton tote bag. A deliver-to-seat bar service will also be in operation at the event.
Launched in 2011 Bristol Comedy Garden fast became a highlight in the southwest’s cultural calendar gaining a reputation for delivering meticulously curated comedy shows, starring the biggest and brightest names in stand-up, in a vibrant festival setting.
This year’s event is all set to be a rib-tickling remedy to the past year, so get your tickets now and be part of this year’s blooming marvellous Bristol Comedy Garden!
