Stewart Lee has recorded a song which will be released along with a new song by one of his favourite bands, The Nightingales.
Lee recorded a cover version of the Nightingales song Use Your Loaf with Nick Pynn for a mooted Nightingales tribute album. It now appears on the limited edition 7 inch single also featuring Ten Bob Each Way, which is a brand-new Nightingales recording, their first since recording their ‘Four Against Fate’ album.
Earlier this year Sky Arts broadcast King Rocker, Lee's love letter/documentary about Robert Lloyd, the singer in Midlands band the Nightingales, who had led a colourful life since forming in the band in the 1970s. Jobs included writing about pies for the food section of GQ magazine. He is also a notable horse racing tipster. The film included scene-stealing appearances from actor Robin Askwith and food critic/chef Nigel Slater.
There is a plan for Stewart Lee to show the documentary at the Prince Charles Cinema in London at some point and bring Robin Askwith onstage. Date to be confirmed....
Lee is due to return to live performing later this year. He was going to be doing more dates of his 2019 Snowflake/Tornado show, but inevitably this will now be substantially rewritten before he tours it in 2022. London work in progress dates will be at Bush Hall in November. Details here.
