C4 has decided not to recommission acclaimed comedy Home after two series.
Creator and co-star Rufus Jones tweeted the news: "Hi All. Sadly we will not be having a third series of Home on Ch4. It’s rare you get to write a hero’s quest in such literal terms. I’ll never have a greater privilege than writing for @YoussefKerkour, Rebekah Staton, @OakleeP, @_AaronNeil and everyone else. Sami. Habibi. Yalla."
"And to everyone who reached out to us online, about how much Home meant to them, thank you and know that it meant the world to hear from you. We were a modest show, but it was thrilling to see it making dents in walls that needed denting." Jones added a link to this charity that helps refugees.
There was an immediate outpouring of support and praise for the programme from fellow performers and fans.
Marcus Brigstocke tweeted: "Awww man! What a damn shame. Still - two wonderful series. X"
Sanjeev Bhaskar tweeted: "Well that’s several kinds of wrong. You all created a beautiful, moving, funny, important and unique show. And that’s what it will always remain to be."
Tez Ilyas added: "That's a real shame bro. Loved your show. Looking forward to seeing what you do next man x"
Writer Jason Hazeley wrote: "It would be shameful, had there not been two glowing series. Also: after two glowing series, it’s still shameful. But bravi to all for spreading so much vital love xxx"
And fellow writer Joel Morris added: "What a brilliant show. You get the Fawlty twelve. That’s a banker. Such an achievement. Well done all. X"
Actor Tim Downie summed up the feelings of a lot of people: "What?! God that’s such a shame, what an utterly brilliant and beautiful thing you’ve all created though. You should be extremely proud X"
