Jonathan Ross is joined by legendary star of stage and screen Sir Ian McKellen, former Strictly judge and Royal Ballet principal dancer Dame Darcey Bussell and the always hilarious Romesh Ranganathan. Plus, multiple BRIT award-winning singer Rag ’n’ Bone Man will be chatting and performing in the studio.
The funny thing is that when I previewed this show last week I mentioned that there were no comedians booked and I suggested that surely Ross could've got Romesh Ranganathan on the show. I didn't realise that Ranganathan was already booked this week.
As has been regularly noted, the Crawley comedian is one of the hardest=working acts around at the moment. He's a regular on TV shows ranging from The Ranganation and A League of Their Own and The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan to Romesh and Rob Vs on Sky. In fact his co-star in the final show, Rob Beckett, is probably the only male comedian as high on the go-to list as Romesh at the moment.
Romesh has also written an autobiography, Straight Outta Crawley: Memoirs of a Distinctly Average Human Being, which talks about his life from his first ‘gig’ at Pontins at the age of 9, to his fumblings as a wannabe rapper (who was actually quite good), to his career as a maths teacher – and through to fame and family-making in the years that followed. Buy his latest book As Good As It Gets: Life Lessons from a Reluctant Adult here. He is also currently a Guardian columnist.
Anyway this isn't to cast shade on Ranganathan. He thoroughly deserves all the success he gets. In fact I'll always have a soft spot for him as his Cynic's Mixtape show at the Eventim Apollo in March 2020 was the last stand-up show I saw back in normal times before the live comedy industry shut up shop. Shortly after the gig Ranganathan had to postpone the rest of his tour. He has rescheduled it a couple of times I think and it now kicks off again in June. You can buy tickets for the Cynic's Mixtape Tour here.
