Following a successful tour earlier this year, Sean Hughes has added further UK performances for his latest show, Penguins. He kicks off this leg of the tour on September 19 at the Didcot Cornerstone.
This autobiographical show goes back to Hughes' childhood in Ireland and explores the utter awkwardness of teenage life, weaving in his family, his school days, the business of friendship and tying it all in to the present. You'll have to see the show for yourself to find out what Penguins have got to do with it.
Sean Hughes has performed all over the world and, as well as being the youngest ever winner of the coveted Perrier Award, he has also won a Fringe First for his short plays, Dehydrated and Travellin’ Light and a Herald Angel in 2013 for Penguins. He was voted No. 40 in C4′s World’s 100 Greatest Comedians poll.
Hughes starred in the cult sitcom Sean’s Show (C4) and was a team captain on Never Mind the Buzzcocks (BBC2). As an actor he has had numerous roles in TV shows including The Last Detective (ITV1). He appeared in Coronation Street (ITV1) as Eilleen’s love interest Pat Stanaway. He has also acted in a number of films such as The Commitments and the film adaptation of Spike Milligan’s Puckoon. He has also performed on the West End stage in As You Like It with Sienna Miller and hosted his own show on BBC 6 Music.
