Sky To Air Young Rock On New Channel Sky Showcase

Sky has picked up Dwayne Johnson’s NBC show Young Rock.

The coming-of-age comedy tells the story of how Dwayne Johnson went from a life in the wrestling world, to playing football at the University of Miami and beyond.

Young Rock follows Dwayne’s life from 10 to his early 20s, with different actors playing Dwayne at various stages. Adrian Groulx (‘The Adventures of Napkin Man!’) plays Dwayne Johnson (AKA Dewey), Age 10. Bradley Constant (‘Following Phil’) plays Dwayne Johnson, Age 15. Uli Latukefu (‘Harrow’, ‘Marco Polo’) plays Dwayne Johnson, Age 18-20. 

Stacey Leilua plays Ata Johnson, Dwayne’s mother. Joseph Lee Anderson (‘Harriet’, ‘S.W.A.T.’) plays Rocky Johnson, Dwayne’s father. Ana Tuisila plays Lia Maivia, Dwayne’s grandmother. 

The series is co-written by Nahnatchka Khan and Jeff Chiang (‘Fresh Off the Boat’, ‘American Dad!’), who exec produces with Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Brian Gewirtz and Jennifer Carreras.

Young Rock will receive its UK premiere on Sky Comedy on Friday September 17th at 8pm with a double-bill, it has been announced. Young Rock was announced alongside the news that Sky is shutting down Sky One and launching a new entertainment channel, Sky Showcase.
