Harlequin Theatre and Cinema has announced that Britain’s Got Talent finalist Daliso Chaponda will join their star line-up as Wishee Washee for the return of this year’s Christmas pantomime, Aladdin.
Daliso shot to fame on the 2017 series of Britain’s Got Talent becoming a firm favourite with both the judges and the British public alike, making such a strong impression at his first round audition that Amanda Holden gave him her golden buzzer pass straight through to the semi-finals to the rapturous chants of the live audience. With his cheeky comedy and irresistible personality, he ultimately fought off stiff competition to make it all the way to the final.
Since then Daliso has headlined two sell-out UK Tours, as well as reaching worldwide audiences with performances at Edinburgh, Melbourne, Singapore and Cape Town comedy festivals and has made numerous TV and Radio appearances including The Royal Variety Performance (ITV), QI (BBC2), The Apprentice: You’re Fired (BBC2), The News Quiz (BBC Radio 4), The Now Show (BBC Radio 4), Rhod Gilbert's Growing Pains (Comedy Central) and Just a Minute (BBC Radio 4).
He is also the writer, creator, and host of his Rose d’Or nominated BBC Radio 4 show Citizen of Nowhere that has aired for two series, which recorded it’s third series this week in Manchester.
In addition to standup comedy, Daliso is also a prolific fiction writer. He has published science fiction, murder mysteries and fantasy fiction in numerous magazines and anthologies and is currently working on his new novel and a children’s book.
Aladdin will see Daliso make his pantomime debut leading the comedy in his inimitably daring style as Wishee Washee. Pantomime Producer Paul Holman said: “Daliso has funny bones… you can’t help but instantly fall for his wit, warmth and charm and we all deserve nothing better than a good laugh this Christmas!”
Harlequin Theatre and Cinema will be joining forces once again with award-winning pantomime producers Paul Holman Associates to present this year’s long-awaited production.
Daliso joins Redhill favourite Simon Bashford as Widow Twankey and Bad Girls actress Nicole Faraday as Abanazar in what promises to be Harlequin Theatre and Cinema’s most magical pantomime ever with lavish costumes and scenery, spellbinding special effects and plenty of laughter guaranteed.
Aladdin runs at Harlequin Theatre and Cinema from Friday 10th December 2021 to Sunday 2nd January 2022. Tickets are on sale now via www.harlequintheatre.co.uk or at the Box Office on 01737 276500.
