A good showing from the comedy world this week, with Cariad Lloyd and Geoff Norcott joining Yasmine Akram and Dennis Taylor as they compete for Richard Osman's prestigious prizes.
Podcast fans will know Cariad Lloyd as the host of the award-winning Griefcast, in which she interviews celebrities about how they have coped with the loss of a loved one and how they have dealt with the grief. Her father died of pancreatic cancer when she was 15.
Lloyd is also a very funny character comedian and actor and has appeared in shows including This Time With Alan Partridge and Peep Show. She has also been popping up on her fair share of panel shows recently including the Josh Widdicombe/James Acaster-fronted Hyptothetical and Would I Lie to You?
Lloyd is also in the improvisation group Austentatious, who make up brand new Jane Austen stories in each performamce based on audience suggestions for titles.
Geoff Norcott is a stand-up comedian and Tory voter. He wrote about how his political views came about in his book, Where Did I Go Right?
He has appeared most recently on Dave's Late Night Mash and has also appeared on programmes including The Last Leg (C4), Would I Lie To You? (BBC1), Mock the Week (BBC2), Live at The Apollo (BBC2), Offended by Irvine Welsh (Sky Arts), The Mash Report (BBC2), 8 Out of 10 Cats (C4) and The Duchess (Netflix). He also fronted his own documentary, How The Middle Class Ruined Britain (BBC2) and has released three Radio 4 specials to date, one of which won 'Best Comedy' at BBC Radio & Music Awards.
Geoff continues to be a feature in the world of political and social commentary, with regular appearances on political programmes, including Question Time, Politics Live and All Out Politics. He has hosted a radio show for the first time in 2020, frequently deputising for Giles Coren on Times Radio as well as becoming a regular on BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz and The Now Show. TV writing credits include additional material for hit sitcom King Gary (BBC1), Have I Got News For You (BBC1), It’s Clarkson on TV (ITV), The Ranganation (BBC2) and many, many more.
