Presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell has tantalised Only Connect fans once again by tweeting something on the day of broadcast which may or may not be connected to something in the upcoming programme.
At 3.54pm Coren Mitchell tweeted: "Is tonight the night that Only Connect “jumps the shark” ? Be sure to let me know, won’t you? @BBCTwo, 8pm"
Her followers immediately wondered if this was related to one of the rounds on the show.
Mithras Angel asked: "Is the connection Henry Winkler?"
Mark Pentler speculated that this was only connected to her outfit: "she's doing the whole show with a fake fin on her back, calling it"
@lushattic wrote: "Ah, you're going to be dressed as the Fonz. I knew it had to happen some day."
Others of course wondered if Coren Mitchell was doing something related to her appearance on Taskmaster, even though she has denied that this is the case when she wore sunglasses, a red wig and a temporary tattoo: @trebor–guk tweeted: "Importantly, when is the Taskmaster episode featuring your choices in head wear?"
@greekarete wrote: "Gotcha Victoria! Will look for potential clue involving shark. Will also look for potential appearance changes that have absolutely nothing to do w/ Taskmaster and are completely random [BIG WINK]. Also looking forward to potential risqué Michael Portillo joke. Much love."
The phrase "jumping the shark" is a term in the TV industry for when a hit show starts to turn bad. It refers to an episode of the American comedy Happy Days in which The Fonz, played by Henry Winkler, went ater skiing and jried to leap over a shark, which was very out of character for the show at the time.
Only Connect is currently on an all-time ratings high. An episode a few weeks ago was the most-viewed programme in its timeslot, although some put this down to Facebook and Instagram being down at the time.
Victoria Coren Mitchell can also currently be seen on Taskmaster on C4 on Thursday evenings at 9pm.
