I've always felt there was an echo of Taskmaster about Richard Osman's House of Games. The humour. The playfulness. The inventiveness. The prize of a travel suitcase even when it was not possible to travel very far. And this week one of the guests is one of the outright breakout stars of recent Taskmasters, Mike Wozniak.
The former doctor made a splash with his quirky take on the games set by Alex Horne and Greg Davies, which included, at one point, shaving his head into a mohican hairstyle. In the end he didn't triumph but maybe his quickfire smarts will stand him in good stead this week. Wozniak is up against Mehreen Baig, Clare Balding, Jamie Laing .
Comedians have a fantastic track record on this show, with Angela Barnes making House of Games history in late 2020 by becoming the first contestant to win all five of their episodes. In the current series, as well as Ed Byrne and Sanjeev Kohli, other winners include Chris Washington, who can currently be seen in TV's Nationwide ad campaign, and Cariad Lloyd, who is best known for hosting her Griefcast podcast.
Last week Sarah Millican was victorious against Nabil Abdulrashid, Philippa Perry and Luke Kempner. Millican's husband, one-liner Mock The Week star Gary Delaney won House of Games in 2020. Millican proudly posted a picture of his and hers trophies on social media last week, which is probably a House of Games first.
Future contestants in this series include Fern Brady, Nick Helm, Nina Conti and Athena Kugblenu. But before that will the winning stars this week opt for the much-coveted House of Games wheelie luggage, or will they be tempted by the House of Games reusable coffee mug, which is brand new for this series?
