New Podcast About Parents From Chris Martin

Comedian Chris Martin is launching a new podcast,“Getting My Dad To Say I Love You” in which he explores the relationships between creatives and their parents..."so we can blame them for everything!"

Chris has access to some of the most exciting names in comedy, including Romesh Ranganathan, Tiff Stevenson, Jamali Maddix and Roisin Conaty. Now based in Los Angeles, Chris is also able to bring in some international names he’s worked with, like Conan and Bad Santa 2star, Jenny Zigrino.

“The idea for this new podcast came about when, over lockdown, I would Zoom with friends and we would inevitably end up discussing our relationships with our parents and whether we are only in the industry to make them proud and more importantly get them to say I love you. I realised my dad has never said “I love you” to me. My mum, at a push, has managed to say ‘love ya’ but ultimately we are a classic, British, middle class family terrified to show any emotion. Turns out I wasn’t the only one. There’s something about being in “entertainment” for lack of a better word, that means we’re desperately seeking validation from everyone else because we didn’t get it from our families. It’s a common thread that bonds us all. Whether a Shakespearean actor or a club comedian, the way we feel about our parents and the way they feel about us has impacted our lives immeasurably.”

The Podcast

Each episode, Chris will interview a different guest from the world of comedy/writing/acting to find out what type of relationship they have with their parents, digging in deep to the messy truth of how they make us feel. It’s a podcast that will have laughs but is also unafraid to get serious and explore regrets and let downs from childhood to adulthood. Learning about these great guests and their families will be endlessly fascinating... and maybe even help Chris to convince his dad John (pictured) to say “I Love You”!

Chris Martin is a British podcaster, standup, actor, writer from London. He’s toured in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and his TV credits include I Think You Should Leave,Live at The Comedy Store (Comedy Central), Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled and ITV's Horrible Science.

His original podcast, The Carl Donnelly and Chris Martin Comedy Podcast, has had over 2 million downloads.

Guests on “Getting My Dad To Say I Love You” include Romesh Ranganathan, Roisin Conaty, Rob Beckett, Tiff Stevenson, Ed Gamble, Jenny Zigrino, Jamali Maddix and Carl Donnelly and the whole series will be available in all the usual podcast places from December 14.
