Crowdfunding Campaign To Set Up New Arts Award

Biggest Fringe Cash Prize Announced

A crowdfunding campaign has been set up to create a new prize at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe which will be a lasting legacy in celebration of acclaimed producer David Johnson, who died, aged 60, in December 2020.

Johnson (pictured) was a highly respected theatre and comedy producer who worked with acts including Stewart Lee, Graham Norton and Fascinating Aida.

The inaugural 'David Johnson Award for Emerging Talent' will take place at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2022. A team of scouts, chaired by arts/culture journalist Helen Hawkins will choose and present a cash award to the performer/s/show/creative independent that best reflects David's passionate and discerning eye for talent.

David Johnson's flair for commercial theatre was matched, and often combined with, his fervent support of emerging and unique artists. This award will be made in that spirit.
