New Year's Eve is the night when the country's biggest celebrities give up their special evening to entertain TV viewers. Well, maybe not. Jools Holland's Hootenanny, featuring Vic Reeves, is already in the can, as is Graham Norton's New Year's Eve all-star edition. And we happen to know that Channel 4's Last Leg has already been filmed.
We know the latter partly because Aisling Bea, who also pops up in Doctor Who this week, posted about The Last Leg on Instagram: "For some reason half the stuff I recorded this year all comes out this week, lord help us, but this one makes sense as we made a New Year’s Eve special.
It’s got myself & @maisieadam , @mrnishkumar who @josh_widdicombe managed to cover in shaving foam ten minutes before we aired, hilarious @ivo_graham , the glorious @vicknhope , @littlealexhorne & The Horne section as the house band (keep an eye out for me at the end doing the lyrics of a well known song backwards despite reading off an autocue) obviously @alex_brooker & @adamhillscomedy with comedian @markjohnolver doing a stellar job keeping the amazing audience & crew going with his warm up as this was a LONG record, thank you if you were there. Then we also have some SPECIAL guests & a quiz.
If you have kept reading this far & want to know about my hashtag fashion - my gorgeous dress is a second hand vampires wife my friend @shishib found for me on @depop - a brill second hand website & my earrings are from my fave @alighieri_jewellery made from recycled metals in the London studio. Thanks to @kithallmakeup for doing my makeup as always xxx"
Best of all, Aisling has saved me from writing a preview of a show I haven't seen yet – a two-hour extravaganza to say goodbye - or should that be good riddance - to 2021.
Featuring hilarious VTs, joyously raucous debate and, of course, some stupid songs, The Last Leg of the Year pokes fun at the year's news and looking forward to what 2022 might have in store. Also billed is Joe Wilkinson, who maybe dodged the shaving foam pies.
