Mo Gilligan Mocks Boris Johnson at the Brits

Brits host Mo Gilligan had a dig at Prime Minister Boris Johnson between introducing acts and awards.

Gilligan said: "We all love a party....Speaking of parties, Boris, I know you're watching. I know you love a party. Come down my guy! I know you like a cheeseboard! Look at you with your Dairyleas."

South London-born comic Gilligan is hosting this year's Brits followng in the footsteps of most recent previous Brits host Jack Whitehall.

Social media was mixed about his Brits erformance. Many people sang his praisesbut others thought he was shouting and not being funny enough for a comedian. His impression of Liam Gallagher, with mock Mancunian accent and football references did not go down well. He also appeared to swear at one point and later apologised saying: "no curry goat for me tonight."

@Zara97a tweeted: "Mo Gilligan is the only good thing about #brits2022"

But @ChrisJantzen tweeted: "Honestly, why is Mo Gilligan shouting everything like Kermit The Frog?!

@Rosieelea tweeted: "Jack Whitehall to Mo Gilligan is a huge upgrade"

But @chrisrose1993 tweeted: "Is Mo Gilligan meant to be funny?"

@Grahamridley tweeted: "I thought Jack Whitehall was awful as Brit Awards host, but this annoying shouty cnut Mo Gilligan is 1000 times worse. Can they replace him mid show?"

@predzuk defended Gilligan: "I see loads of internet nerds talking nonsense about Mo Gilligan’s hosting can I remind you all that Mo used to host showcases for up and coming artist nationally for years before he got his break. I’m tired of seeing people tryna discredit hard work"

The evening was also notable for singer Anne Marie nearly falling over when she was coming down some stairs onstage, but she managed to get away with it, just about. TV critic Elliot Gonzalez tweeted: "OH NO!!! Anne-Marie had her Madonna moment. But styled it out. "

Mo Gilligan has announced he’s donating his Brits fee for presenting the upcoming Brit Awards to @fivexmore, a grassroots charity aiming to help improve “Black women and birthing people’s maternal health outcomes in the UK”
