Great comedy guests on Sunday Brunch today, with Tom Allen, Jason Byrne and Morgana Robinson chatting about their current projects.
Tom Allen has just finished his run on The Apprentice You're Fired, but can currently be seen on our screens on the new Dave panel show The Island. It's a bit of a hybrid of panel show and oddball Taskmaster-ish ideas but it does have some great comedians including Sara Pascoe and Johnny Vegas, plus Kemah Bob and Jason Forbes. It's an odd concept that does not entirely work, but Allen is the best thing about it and is really at the top of his game right now.
Morgana Robinson is about to appear on our screen in a new comedy series entitled Newark, Newark on Gold. The series is set in the small working class market town of Newark in the East Midlands and follows chip shop manager and exhausted matriarch, Maxine (Morgana Robinson), as she tries to ride out her divorce and find someone who actually lights her fire. However, it's easier said than done with her big-mouthed, soft-bellied, son, Leslie (Jai Hollis) dramatically coming out as gay to the surprise of no one and her dullard ex-husband, Terry (Mathew Horne), trying ever more desperately to win her back. There’s also her mother Pauline (Beverley Callard) who can’t help meddling with her love life.
And Jason Byrne has just announced his new national tour. The show is called Unblocked, which is a reference to the heart problems that he had that results in him having stents put in to help the blood floow through his artieries. But the title means more than that. Byrne says he has not only had his heart unblocked and been given a new lease of life, but his whole career has been unblocked too! The constipation of Covid has been cleared, live entertainment has been colonically irrigated and readied up for us all. The bans from social media platforms have been lifted and Jason is back dishing up platters of fun to everyone.
The Irish livewire comedian says: “I’m unblocked and ready to go! My arteries are unblocked, I’ve been unblocked from TikTok and other social media, my brain is flowing at full capacity and I’m finally ready to unleash the full potential that is JASON BYRNE.” click here for his dates and to buy tickets.
