Two fine comedians take part in Richard Osman's House of Games this week – Babatunde Aléshé and Jo Caulfield are up against Richie Anderson and Carol Smillie.
I last saw Babatunde Aleshe performing at the massive 02 Arena in London as part of Mo Gilligan's Black British Takeover comedy special in December. Aleshe is one of comedy's fast rising stars and is due to go on his first major solo tour later this year. Buy tickets and see dates here.
Since bursting onto the mainstream, Babatunde’s numerous entertainment TV credits include Romesh Ranganathan’s reboot of The Weakest Link, (BBC), Guessable (Comedy Central), The Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV2), Jonathan Ross Stand Up Club (ITV1), Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains (Comedy Central) and Stand Up to Cancer (Channel 4). In 2020, he was featured in the groundbreaking documentary Black, British and Funny (Channel 4) and in 2021 he supported Mo Gilligan on his sold out national tour before appearing at the O2 Arena’s Black British Takeover.
He’s also a firm cast favourite for the multi award winning Celebrity Gogglebox (Channel 4) and represented the show for its most recent BAFTA nomination.
Jo Caulfield has been one of the top names in comedy clubs for over a decade now. She got much deserved recognition before Christmas when she jointly won the award for Circuit Comedian of the Year alongside Mark Nelson and Ninia Benjamin. This is a prestigious award voted for by fellows comedians so they certainly know comedy talent when they see it.
When she won her award Caulfield said: "It must say something about me that I get an award for Best Circuit Comic in a year when the comedy circuit was decimated. You lot are taking the piss, aren’t you?"
Aleshe recently moved out of north London to bring his family up somewhere less hectic.
