Bursary for Female & Non-Binary Comedians Returns to The 99 Club

Finalists Announced for Showcase Championing Female & Non-Binary Comedians

The 99 Club has announced the reinstatement of its bursary schemes, after a hiatus caused by the Pandemic. This bursary is dedicated to female and non-binary artists who are taking their first full length solo comedy show to the Edinburgh Festival - a major step in a comedian’s career.

Five shortlisted comedians will appear in a showcase at one of our West End venues in May, and will be judged by top industry professionals. Two comics will receive an award of £500, with the other 3 finalists receiving a £100 award.

The 99 Club has been awarded London’s Best Comedy Club at the Chortle Awards 10 years running. The Club was also able to support artists during the time of Covid restrictions with our socially distanced & online shows paying artists nearly £200k in fees. We at The 99 Club are lucky to have a regular roster of incredibly talented female & non-binary comedians featuring Maisie Adam, Sarah Millican, Sara Pascoe and Ellie Taylor to name a few.

Past bursary recipients include Sophie Duker, Sarah Keyworth, Helen Bauer, Catherine Bohart, Lauren Pattison and Janine Harouni. These previous bursary recipients have gone on from promising new acts to appearing on the likes of Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, Taskmaster and Comedy Central’s Roast Battle.

We value our ability to offer a platform for diverse voices, and know that there are many more talented female & non-binary comics out there. We look forward to working with emerging talents, and are honoured to provide a foundation for their artistic development.
