Sunday Brunch With Sarah Solemani and Dustin Demri-Burns

Interesting guests this week on Sunday Brunch including Sarah Solemani and Dustin Demri-Burns, two actors known mainly for their comedy but recently branching out into more diverse work.

Sarah Solemani is one of the stars and the co-writer of Chivalry, the new Channel 4 comedy about #metoo in showbiz also starring Steve Coogan (who co-wrote it) and Aisling Bea and Lolly Adefope.

Solemani might be previously best known to British TV viewers for her roles in Bad Education with Jack Whitehall and Him And Her with Russell Tovey and also appearing in Bridget Jones' Baby. For the last few years, however, Solemani has been based in Los Angeles and is developing numerous new projects which she may or may not talk about to co-hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer.

When I last interviewed Solemani, she told me that she waned to make something about the Britpop/Oasis era so maybe one of her upcoming projects will be about that. Solemani is vocal about women in her industry and says that in America there is a much more positive attitude – among other things she was chosen to be on the writing team of the show Barry by Bill Hader and Alec Berg.

Dustin Demri-Burns will be known to comedy fans as half of the off-the-wall quirky sketch duo Cardinal Burns. More recently he has had a regular role in hit sitcom Stath Lets Flats. But at the moment he can also be seen in a straight role in the new Apple TV thriller Slow Horses, based on the book by Mick Herron and starring Gary Oldman and Saskia Reeves as disgraced MI5 agents who have been consigned to a bleak backwater in central London called Slough House – such a backwater, it is said in the drama, it migh as well be in Slough.

But suddenly the mismatched team, including Demi-Burns, has the chance to work on an espionage case that seems much more serious and murky than it first appears. Very good, very dramatic and Gary Oldman is terrific in the crumpled, boozy lead role.
