Comedian Mark Maier has spoken about having to deal with anti-semitic heckles at a gig earlier this month.
The award-winning stand-up was performing at Great Dunmow Comedy Club on May 6. When he was talking about his German father when an audience member shouted "I thought you'd be Jewish with that nose".
According to a report the audience jeered the heckler and after a moment to think of a suitable response Maier said: "Well I am Jewish and you Sir are a racist **** so why don't you f**k off out of here."
Members of the audience shouted "out" and Maier said: "I don't really want to carry on to be honest. Why would I want to entertain this complete racist idiot."
Comedian Paddy Lennox, who runs the club, took action and asked the man to leave. After threatening to call the police the man left.
Headliner Maier continued his act and when he finished he received a standing ovation.
Afterwards he told beyond the joke: "My overiding feeling was why would I want to entertain this anti-Semitic idiot. I want to make it clear I saw it as anti-semitic and not racist. The idea you can't be both German and Jewish was another staggering element to this idiot’s repertoire
Lennox told the Bishops Stortford Independent: "When this kicked off I decided 'I'm not having that'. I'm not having any anti-Semitism in my club."
