Is This The Ricky Gervais Response To Stewart Lee Calling After Life "Abysmal"

Has Ricky Gervais responded to Stewart Lee's criticisms of his recent comedy drama work?

Gervais has not said anything directly but on his Twitter account this morning he tweeted a trailer from the first series of the netflix hit After Life. In the clip Gervais' character, mourning his wife's death, says: "I'm not gonna let cunts wind me up." He added the comment: "The best trailer ever made" and a laughing smiley face emoji.

Here is a link to the clip.

He later posted a couple more tweets. One was: "Watch the award-winning, record-breaking stand up special #SuperNature. Streaming on @Netflix around the world."

Another was a picture of him laughing alongside two big dogs with the comment: "Hope you're having the day you deserve."

Last week an interview with Lee as part of Rob Brydon's Spotify series was released to promote the BBC broadcast of Lee's two recent stand-up specials, Snowflake and Tornado. Snowflake is now on iPlayer, Tornado (pictured) was postponed due to the death of the Queen and now goes out on Friday, September 16 at 11.35pm.

Lee told Brydon:

"I think The Office is brilliant. I think Ricky's comedy drama work is of diminishing returns to the point where it's now abysmal.

I think it must be very sad. If you're teaching drama or creative writing how can you make a case for the things that make drama and Creative Writing good when After

Life is a success? You know, because your kids could just go, but none of those things happen in this and yet,

millions of people are watching.  I think it's one of the worst things that's ever been made by a human."

Rob Brydon suggested that Gervais has said that Lee is an influence him. To which Lee laughed and replied:

"Well I don't suppose Robert Oppenheimer felt great about having created the atomic bomb."
