The Southbank Centre has announces two popular podcasts to be performed live this Christmas, bringing merriness and mirth out of the headphones and onto the stage.
The Royal Festival Hall hosts Off Menu: The Christmas Dinner Party (20 December), a festive edition of the hugely popular ‘Off Menu’ podcast, which returns after its sell-out shows last summer, while The Guilty Feminist Presents Camp as Christmas (3 December), brings a star-studded, all LGBTQ+ line-up to the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Ed Gamble and James Acaster’s award-winning Off Menu podcast made its hugely successful live debut at the Royal Festival Hall in 2021, with the comedians speaking to special guests Isy Suttie and Edgar Wright about their favourite starter, main course, side dish, drink and dessert. Since launching in December 2018, Off Menu has become one of the biggest podcasts in the country, regularly topping the podcast charts with over 100 million downloads. In the first live Christmas version, Gamble and Acaster as The Genie and the Maître Dream offer us a chance to go ‘off-menu’ in the decorated Dream Restaurant. The special guest is to be announced at a later date. Check southbankcentre.co.uk for updates.
The very best of the stage and screen feature in The Guilty Feminist Presents Camp as Christmas. Comedians Deborah Frances-White and Tom Allen host the popular podcast with an all LGBTQ+ line-up. Rosie Jones, Larry Dean, Kemah Bob, Suzi Ruffell, Sophie Duker, Rob Diament and Russell Tovey are billed to bring stand-up comedy, cheeky Christmas readings, music and surprise guests.
Through this one-off gala performance, The Guilty Feminist will support Say It Loud Club, a charity run for and by LGBTQ+ refugees fleeing homophobic oppression. The charity is committed to providing social, emotional, educational and advocacy support for LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.
Deborah Frances-White’s award-winning podcast The Guilty Feminist hosts special guests to discuss the noble goals as 21st century feminists, confessing their insecurities, hypocrisies and fears that underlie their lofty principles. This special Christmas edition asks audiences to rock around the Christmas tree and see Daddy kissing Santa Claus.
Tickets go on sale to the Southbank Centre Members on Tuesday 4 October and on general sale on Wednesday 5 October.
