It's the battle of the chat shows again with The Graham Norton Show having recently returned to BBC One on Friday nights and now The Jonathan Ross Show now returning to ITV1 on Saturday nights. Although you might not have noticed Ross is returning, I can't say I've noticed many trailers for it
This week's guests settling onto the Ross sofa include, in her first chat show interview, the sporting star of the summer - England’s Euros winning footballer Chloe Kelly - the hilarious Romesh Ranganathan, and multi-BRIT award-winning and chart-topping singer, the always fun and unpredictable Lewis Capaldi, who will be chatting and performing in the studio. Capaldi's new single pays tribute-slash-homage to Wham's classic Club Tropicana video by recreating it as the visual backdrop to his new single.
Plus Am I Being Unreasonable? writer/star Daisy May Cooper and astronaut Tim Peake.
Romesh Ranganathan is always going to be good value and always has plenty to talk about. Not just his various TV shows including the current series of The Ranganation and his recent DNA Journey show in which he explored his genetic past with Rob Beckett. Ranganathan has recently filmed his brilliant live show The Cynic's Mixtape in Crawley near to where he grew up for future release on Netflix. He has also just announced a new tour for 2023 and 2024 playing even bigger venues called Hustle. I expect that will get a plug on the Ross show. Find out more details about the tour and ticket links here.
Personally I'm also hoping for more of his Misadventures travel series on BBC One. He is a great guide, managing to balance the cynical with the charming, which is a pretty neat trick to pull off. His previous job as a teacher probably helps him deal with audiences when he is onstage and maybe it also helps him to understand the educational side of programmes where he is the viewer's eyes and ears into a place where they may have never been.
The Jonathan Ross Show, Saturdays from October 15, 10pm, ITV1
