Graham Norton Show Guests This Week

Graham Norton Show - Sneak Preview

This sweek's guests on the BAFTA-award-winning talk show are ‘Normal People’ star Paul Mescal in critically acclaimed father-and-daughter drama ‘Aftersun’; stars of the hotly anticipated Marvel sequel ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Michaela Coel and Winston Duke; award-winning actor Emma Corrin (Princess Diana in ‘The Crown’ Season 4); and comedian and writer Richard Ayoade talking about his new book ‘The Book That No One Wanted to Read'. With music from Loyle Carner who performs his current single ‘Nobody Knows (Ladas Road)’.

It should be fun seeing Richard Ayoade on a chat show. He has previously been on the show and been a big hit but has also suggested that he is not a fan of going on the interview trail to promote projects  as himself - which, ironically, makes him a hugely entertaining guest. In 2014 he did an enigmatic interview with C4 News that went viral. Interviewer Krishnan Guru-Murthy wrote afterwards: "I thought it was the perfect joke interview, in which the guest, the interviewer and the viewers were all in on a joke that actually had something serious to say too."

And also ironically, Ayoade followers with long memories might recall that he had his own spoof chat show in the guise of Dean Learner, the character that previously popped up in the C4 cult show Garth Marenghi's Dark Place. Though Ayoade is probably still most famous for playing nerdy Moss in The IT Crowd. He also hosted Travel Man for nine series before stepping down from the Channel 4 show.

He has written three film–focused books: Ayoade on Ayoade: A Cinematic Odyssey (2014), The Grip of Film (2017), and Ayoade on Top (2019).

Ayoade will – hopefully – be going into a bit of detail about his latest book, ‘The Book That No One Wanted to Read' but is a pretty private person so is less likely to be talking about his brother-in-law Laurence Fox - Ayoade is married to Laurence's sister Lydia Fox.

The Graham Norton Show, Friday, November 4, 10.40pm, BBC One
