Joe Lycett Comes Clean About David Beckham Money Shredding

Joe Lycett Fans Split Over Plan to Shred £10k If David Beckham Doesn't Quit Qatar Deal

Joe Lycett has revealed the truth about whether he shredded £10k of his own money on Sunday after failing to persuade David Beckham to pull out of his lucrative Qatar deal.

In a social media post Lycett explained what he did: “This is my final message to David Beckham. It’s me! That prick who shredded loads of money in a cost of living crisis. So, where we? Or did I? I haven’t quite told you the whole truth.”

"I would never destroy real money. I would never be so irresponsible. I never expected to hear from you. It was an empty threat designed to get people talking. In many ways, it was like your deal with Qatar, David. Total bullshit from the start...I'm not even queer!"

Lycett has in fact donated £10,000 to LGBT+ charities. He did this before tweeting his message to David Beckham.

Instead he has shredded the Attitude magazine cover from June 2002 with David Beckham's image on it. "I asked Attitude if I could shred it and they were more than happy to oblige."

Last week in a podcast interview with Richard Herring Lycett talked about how he made an advert about Shell. He didn't expect the advert to change Shell, he did it to raise awareness. It looks as if he has used the same ploy here.
