It's another House of Games champions week this week and as comedians have such a good record on this show it is no surpise that three of the four competitors are people that make us laugh. Joining EastEnders star Charlie Brooks are former winners Stephen Bailey, Ria Lina and John Thomson.
John Thomson is a bit of a comedy legend and also a formidable actor. Comedy fans may known him mainly for his work on The Fast Show but the first time I saw him was at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe when he co-starred with Steve Coogan in the show that won the Perrier Award back in 1992. He was most memorable back then for his stand-up spoof character Bernard Right-On.
People will also remember him for his appearance on Know Me, Knowing You as nervous ventriloquist Joe Beasley. Since then Thomson has also been a regular member of the Cold Feet cast, showing that he can act as well as make viewers laugh.
Ria Lina is having a good run at the moment. She recently appeared on Live at the Apollo,The Last Leg, Pointless Cebrities and Have I Got News For You. She is not just a comedian though, she is also someone who can speak with authority about coronavirus. She used to be known as that comedian who plays bawdy songs on the ukelele, but the Filipino stand-up has a PhD in Virology.
Lina was born in the UK but previously lived in America and The Netherlands. Her German father was a painter, her Filipino mother trained as a physicist. Before comedy Lina worked as an IT Forensic Investigator for the Serious Fraud Office.
