Topical TV Programme Quotes Spoof Tory Tweet

Jeremy Vine's topical show on Five is the latest instance of a something demonstrating that there is a thin line sometimes between satirical content and genuine views of politicians.

Yesterday spoof Tory MP Sir Michael Take tweeted to his followers regarding the rail strike: "Our old boys dinner at The Ritz has been cancelled because of the Rail Strike. Usually we meet up & raise money for our old school. Thanks to Mick Lynch & his cronies this won’t happen. A public school is now without vital funds & some poor elderly men missing pals to talk to."

This morning the tweet was discussed on Five when Vine called Take "apparently, he says, an ex-Tory MP". Take responded with the following: "Very pleased to see my common sense opinions about The Rail Strike were featured on @theJeremyVine’s TV Programme this morning. I’m delighted that viewers of @JeremyVineOn5 were able to listen to my views on all of this industrial action."

Although the programme did later clarify that they knew it was a parody even if some viewers didn't, with Vine saying "this guys a parody and it's a very funny account on Twitter, the anger from people responding to that shows how nasty this has got."
