Richard Herring Interviews Terry Hall

Richard Herring has reminded fans of this interview with singer Terry Hall who died this week.

Herring grilled Hall in January 2019, discussing, among other things, his musical past, Coventry and also touching on the darker side of the vocalist's past, his depression and when he was abducted by a paedophile gang in France as a young teenager.

Herring wrote on his blog: "Just as I was about to fall asleep I checked the BBC News...and discovered the unbelievable news that Terry Hall had passed away. That was about as gutting as things can get. He is one of my absolute heroes and a much underrated talent and this was just very unexpected.

I had the privilege of meeting him on a couple of occasions and of course, also getting to talk to him for an hour in one of the best RHLSTPs we ever did (or watch here), where you saw something of the real man, his quiet humour and his personal tragedies and it was great to be able to tell him how much his music meant to me.

Home remains my favourite album of all time and the stuff with the Specials is a social history, that sadly is as relevant now as it ever was. What absolutely shitty news."
