The ITV interview with Prince Harry was trending on Twitter before the programme was even broadcast with the hashtag #HarryTheInterview. The exclusive programme coincides with the publication of Prince Harry's book entitled Spare. In the controversial talk with Tom Bradby Prince Harry discussed taking drugs, mushrooms and cocaine, his relationship with his older brother William and much more.
Journalist Sophia Money-Coutts was more concerned about the seating arrangements: "Why are they sitting in those uncomfortable chairs?"
Jamestreo tweeted: "Getting sick of Harry telling his side of the story for the “first” time, but if there’s ever an opportunity to slag off the royal family I’ll take it #HarryTheInterview"
While CB_038 noted: "Loose women, Lorraine, Jeremy Vine, This Morning etc are going to have a bloody field day tomorrow over this aren't they?"
Julymermaid tweeted: "#HarryTheInterview When he says 'he had to flee for his life from his country ...' - I wonder whether he really understand what 'fleeing for one's life' actually looks like ... such a fake !!"
Kiynyasha wrote: "So happy for Harry being able to have his say about absolutely everything he wants to address. All the very best for him. #HarryTheInterview"
susie_wong_86 also spoke up for the Duke of Sussex: "Go Harry, despite the hate and attacks you are gonna get from speaking up, you have just as much right to tell your side of the story, as the next person, even if it makes them uncomfortable! #HarryTheInterview #TeamHarryAndMeghan"
Interestingly some people thought Piers Morgan should have done the interview. LouBe tweeted: "@piersmorgan should have done this interview #HarryTheInterview".
Piers Morgan tweeted a picture of breeds of "British tit" and above the word 'colossal' was a picture of Prince Harry.
Jeremy Clarkson, who has been critical of Meghan, had not been on Twitter at the time of writing. Prince Harry said that what Clarkson wrote about Meghan was "horrific".
Jonny Geller tweeted:"#HarryTheInterview is uncomfortable viewing. Memoirs can create deep empathy or push readers away by making voyeurs of us. It seems Harry lacked a literary advisor to guide him about what not to say and how to say what he wanted and to protect him from himself."
Before the broadcast ITV released a second trailer for its forthcoming interview with Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex.
The clip material includes Tom Bradby questioning Prince Harry about his decision to discuss his relationships with family members in his autobiography, Spare, which will be published two days following the broadcast, on 10 January, by Transworld.
Prince Harry: “I don’t know how staying silent is ever going to make things better.”
Tom Bradby: “Wouldn’t your brother say to you, ‘Harry, how could you do this to me after everything? After everything we went through?’ Wouldn’t that be what he would say?”
Prince Harry: “He would probably say all sorts of different things.”
Tom: “Some people will say you’ve railed against invasions of your privacy all your life and the accusation will be here are you invading the privacy of your nearest and dearest without permission, now that will be the accusation.”
Prince Harry: “That would be the accusation from people that don’t understand or don’t want to believe that my family have been briefing the press.”
In the clip, the interviewer also asks Prince Harry about plans for the coronation of his father, HRH King Charles, set for later this year, as well as about his view of the monarchy and his role in it.
Tom: “If you are invited to the coronation will you come?”
Prince Harry: “There’s a lot that can happen between now and then.
“But, the door is always open. The ball is in their court. There’s a lot to be discussed and I really hope that they’re willing to sit down and talk about it.”
Tom: “Do you still believe in the monarchy?”
Prince Harry: “Yes.”
Tom: “Do you believe you will play a part in its future?”
Prince Harry: “I don’t know.”
Harry: The Interview is distributed internationally by ITV Studios.
