Tiktok’s Breakthrough Stars of 2022 the Sugarcoated Sisters bring their Edinburgh Fringe debut ‘Bittersweet’ to London for the first time at the Soho Theatre (Downstairs) for three nights from Tuesday 4th – Thursday 6th April. Join them as they unleash their multi-million-hit personas at Soho Theatre for a collective cathartic release! The show was directed by Laura Corcoran from critically acclaimed cabaret/comedy act Frisky & Mannish.
The comedy duo is made up of real-life siblings, Chloe (30) and Tabby Tingey (28). When they got dumped in 2021, they started posting songs about their heartbreak on TikTok (thinking no one would see it) and have since gained over 600K followers and 100M views across social platforms.
‘Bittersweet’ sees the award winning musical comedy duo move back to their hometown in Hertfordshire to discover unfinished business lurking around every corner. Armed with original songs, guitar and double bass, no musical style is off-limits as ammunition for their scathing revenge on everyone who’s ever wronged them with tales of lost love, family feuds, and dating disasters.
Chloe and Tabby are both bisexual, however their content mostly focuses on men, due to the systemic power play that exists in heteronormative dating. ‘Bittersweet’ also deals with the myths surrounding Bipolar and Diabetes, condemning medical gaslighting and harmful stereotypes.
Winning Tiktok Breakthrough Stars 2022 and Best Newcomer at the Musical Comedy Awards 2022, they have firmly cemented themselves at the top of the cross-section of digital and live musical comedy. Their material covers feminism, modern dating, UK culture, politics, women’s health and more. The pair’s previous accolades include TikTok Creators to Watch 2022, Tiktok’s Women Trailblazers 2022, Funny Women Content Creator Award Finalists 2021 & 2022, Comedy Crowd Chortlist 2022.
Tabby (28) has type 1 diabetes, which is an auto-immune disease where her pancreas does not produce insulin. Diagnosed aged 17, she was dismissed by her GP as a ‘drama queen’ becoming seriously ill and hospitalized for 10 days. For 10 years she had to inject herself with insulin 5 times a day and prick her fingers to test her blood sugar levels up to 10 times a day to keep herself alive. Over 20,000 injections later, she was lucky enough to get a Dexcom and an insulin pump, which work together as an artificial pancreas. Tabby wears her pump proudly and it is often visible in their videos.
Chloe (30) has bipolar type 2, which is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings, which can last for several weeks. She suspected she might have bipolar coming into her 20s and asked several medical professionals for help, but no one would take her seriously. So, it wasn’t until she was 26 and entered a severe hypomanic episode that she was finally diagnosed with the disorder and offered treatment.
They have two other siblings, Alfie (25) and Bashi (23). Bashi can be seen occasionally on their Tiktok channel and co-produced ‘Bittersweet!’. Their mum (Hester) created the viral Facebook sensation ‘Doreen Doily’s No-Brainer Lectures’ and released hundreds of 1 minute video lessons. Doreen racked up over 26M views and has over 39K subscribers. Hester also took an original one woman show to Edinburgh Fringe in 2018.
Tabby and Chloe founded a folk/pop band called 'Pandora’s Box’, when they were 12 and 14 respectively. They played gigs all over the country from Strawberry Fair to the Secret Garden Party to Camp Bestival. They won a BRIT Class Act Award and garnered millions of views with their ’Number 1 Project’ on Youtube, where they covered every UK number 1 every week.
In 2009, when Chloe and Tabby were 17 and 15, they blagged themselves a job translating for French president Sarkozy’s police entourage during the G20 Summit. Barack Obama winked at Tabby, which has been the highlight of her life so far…
