Paddy McGuinness On The Possible Return Of Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere

Paddy McGuinness has teased a possible return of the series ‘Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere’ admitting “we do talk about it…we never say never” and reveals “we wrote a couple of Christmas specials and we still got them” but doesn’t want to release them yet as he’s  “inherently lazy” and likes “doing as little as possible for as much money as possible”

McGuinness was talking with Roman Kemp, Chris Stark and Sian Welby on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp.

Here is a transcript of the conversation.

SW: We love your friendship [Paddy McGuinness and Peter Kay], obviously for years. And I think that the Capital Evening presenter Sonny Jay he would kill me if I didn't ask you this..

PM: Yeah...

SW: Him and Roman have been obsessed for years. They sing the theme tune all the time. 'Max and Paddy', Paddy and Max… are they getting...

PM: Yeah.. [laughs singing Max and Paddy theme tune]

PM: I co-wrote that song as well. Just putting it out there. Just in case there's a royalty thing ever comes round

CS: Did you actually?

PM: Yeah, we wrote that song...when you're doing stuff. We were like talking about theme tune... "what should we do?", "should we get in?" and we'll "just do it now". Bit of paper on your knee... he wrote a couple of lines, I wrote a couple lines and then we start putting it together and it is what it is. It goes on for a while that, like the 12 inch version... its mental. There's all sorts of stuff in it.

SW: But will you ever be getting back together again?

PM: Well, when we talk about stuff, the like the interesting thing about Max and Paddy, and Phoenix Nights is now, we are kind of all of an age of the people we played back then. But we do talk about it and what have you, but, I don't, I can't, I can't see it at the minute, but we never say never, but it's good to talk. Like Max and Paddy for instance, we wrote a couple of Christmas specials, and we still got them. And we never got around to doing on for whatever the reason were back in the day. But we've actually got them!

SW: They're written?

CS: They're done. They could be. You could action that?

PM: Yeah, yeah.

SW: Would you like us to throw it out there? Do you want to just get survey? Do people want this?

PM: Not really, these days, I'm inherently lazy. So I like doing as little as possible for as much money as possible.

CS: But the Christmas special, hang on a minute, like you're sitting on, there's a Max and Paddy that's been made. But your saying you're too...you didn't say lazy?

PM: Lazy...

CS: Okay, you said it. You're too lazy to put it out? What do we need to do?

PM: No, the thing is, with anything, if your doing a scripted comedy show, it does take a long time...you have literally got to kind of blank out 12 months of your life and genuinely at the moment. I mean, he's on tour. I've got all kinds of stuff going on, and it's just sort of going ‘right, let's get together. Let's get our diaries together. And let's blank out for that time’.

SW: But Paddy for argument's sake if we were to get 1000s of texts coming in pleading for the Christmas special...

PM: Won't make a blind bit of difference [laughing]

ALL [laugh]
