Today (April 11) sees the launch of There Will Be Film, a new comedy podcast from Nathan D’Arcy Roberts about films, with captains Heidi Regan and Stuart Laws joined by a cast of comedian guests each week. The show is a classic comedy panel show set up with the captains each having a guest comedian join their team and then competing to win different rounds of film-themed questions and tasks.
The show is anarchic, fast-paced and regularly on a surprising tangent, no matter how hard Nathan tries to keep everyone on track. Rounds such as Movie Trivia, The Big Pitch and The Stand-In provide the comedians plenty of opportunity to show off their film knowledge, movie smarts, acting ability and in Helen Bauer’s case: how big her tits are.
Nathan explains why he wanted to do such a show: “This show combines my twin loves of cinema and being as dumb as humanly possible. When it came to choosing who should join me the only candidates equally as in love with films and as dumb as me were Heidi Regan and Stuart Laws.”
Guests appearing in the first run of 12 episodes include Sarah Keyworth, Sunil Patel, Bobby Mair, Sikisa, Harriet Kemsley, Ken Cheng, Ania Magliano and the film critic and writer Hanna Ines-Flint. The three regulars are huge movie fans but each bring their own unique appreciation and perspective - Nathan is into pretentious arthouse, Stuart loves an intricate thriller and Heidi will watch anything with Iron Man in.
The series is a mixture of studio records at Plosive Productions and live records at indie comedy venues in London, including The Bill Murray, Top Secret and The Albany.
