Director Nick Steel has given this year’s Bath Plug Award (for outstanding services to comedy) to Julian Clary, at the end of a hilarious one-off performance at Bath Forum which heralded the end of this year’s Bath Comedy Festival.
Co-creator of the Bath Plug Award, Comedy Historian and Author Jem Roberts said:
“From the first glittering sight of The Joan Collins Fan Club with Fanny the Wonder Dog on Saturday Live, to his place today as the nation’s most beloved dispenser of suggestive barbs, no comedian could more deserve the Bath Plug Award for comedy majesty than Julian Clary.”
Nick Steel went on to announce a brand new award – the Order of the Bath Plug – and presented the inaugural O.B.P. medal to Clary’s co-performer, renowned jazz pianist and singer Ian Shaw.
“Alongside the Bath Plug Award for services to comedy, I’m launching this new medal-like award, the O.B.P., for all-round brilliance and being a jolly good egg!”
