Ricky Gervais has updated his social media followers about his health following concerns about his condition.

Earlier today Gervais tweeted: "I'm not well today. In fact I'd say I just lived through the worst 8 hours of illness of my life. Severe abdominal pains, vomiting every time I moved, (but only tiny bits of bile), hot sweats and chills, oh, and I really want to know who planted the 12 gravy bombs up my arse."

He was inundated with advice and well wishers and eight hours later posted a more positive update: "I'm out of bed and I've had a bath. Feel weak and annoyed that I wasted a whole day, but that is a huge improvement on believing that I was definitely going to die. Thanks for all your well wishes."

It was suggested that it was a bout of norovirus, to which Gervais tweeted: "Yeah that's what I thought." When someone suggested Food poisoning he said: "probably".

Pastor Alex Love suggested: "You need JESUS" to which Gervais felt well enough to reply: "Does he clean bogs?"

He later tweeted that "At one point I thought it could be radiation poisoning."

And the following day he added: "All better today. Woke up feeling fit as a fiddle. Stomach felt like I'd done a thousand sit ups, so hopefully I've vomited my way to a 6 pack. Get ripped with Norovirus"

Last week Gervais played one of the biggest gigs of his stand-up career at the Hollywood Bowl and continues to tour his Armageddon show in 2023. Dates are currently due to go ahead as planned. A new run of UK dates is set to start at the Cambridge Corn Exchange on May 22.
