A member of the production crew has revealed more about the lengths that the Inside No 9 team including Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton and producer Adam Tandy went to to dupe viewers last night. The crew even had to sign NDAs - non-disclosure agreements, the sort of thing Hollywood actors have to sign, so that they would not give anything away in advance.
Chris Mac, who is a sound designer, wrote online: "...the NDA had the phrase "disclosure of the true nature of this episode will result in termination". PLEAE NOTE, it did not say "...will result in termination of your contract." Just termination Reece & Steve dont take any prisoners. The proper episode is now up on iPlayer. There were layers and layers of deception....even the runners in post who saw Lee come in for the ADR sessions had to be tricked into believing it was a Quiz show!
Great fun..and I hope the fans enjoyed it as much as we did. I can tell you now that hours were spent trying to create a natural and convincing sound track of the audience, including asking audiences for other shows to scream and react to unspecified horrors for an unspecified program that the could not know about. We mixed it in a different we and even ADDED lighting noise. We did everything we could to turn the sound of a flat stage into what you would hear on a proper quiz show, and we loved every second!"
We presume this is all true as Reece Shearsmith has retweeted this.
