Hackney Empire Announces Comedy Season

Hackney Empire Artistic Director Yamin Choudury has announced a line up of new high-profile comedy this autumn.

Comedian and Emmy-nominated writer Nimesh Patel (Saturday Night Live, A Little Late with Lilly Singh) will play Hackney Empire on 1 September. Nimesh most recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and made his late-night debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers. His self-released specials Jokes To Get You Through Quarantine, Thank You, China, and Lucky Lefty have amassed millions of views.

Best known as a team captain on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Cats Countdown (Channel 4), host of Dave’s Ultimate Worrier, and the hit sitcom Meet the Richardsons, John Richardson will bring his new show The Knitwit to Hackney on 7 September, followed by beloved national treasure Alan Carr’s stand-up show Regional Trinket on 8 September.

The Big C-omedy Night on 10 October will see the biggest names in comedy take to the stage in aid of the breast cancer unit at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Essex. Produced by breast cancer survivor Becky O’Sullivan and Brash Events, the event will be hosted by Fin Taylor with a line-up including Kerry Godliman (After Life), Phil Wang (Philly Philly, Wang Wang), Fern Brady (Strong Female Character) and Jamali Maddix (Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Taskmaster).

After 76 sold out shows across the country, Jen Brister has extended her The Optimist tour for a third and final time and will be bringing it to the Hackney Empire stage on 13 October.

Acclaimed and beloved serial killer podcast All Killa No Filla will celebrate its tenth anniversary on the Hackney Empire stage this Halloween with comedians Rachel Fairburn and Kiri Pritchard-McLean hosting a special All Killa No Filla Live on 31 October.

TV ‘comedy queen, incel wet dream and professional gammon-botherer' Sophie Duker (pictured, Taskmaster, Mock the Week) will host the Wacky Racists Comedy Club on 26 October, platforms performers of colour and under-represented allies, serving up epic comedy with some of the best stand-ups, drag acts and cabaret icons on the planet.
